What up beautiful world. I'm a little new to the blog experience- on the publishing end of it anyway, so bare with me as I get this moving.
This site is to focus primarily on what has been dubbed the Holy Hip Hop genre of music. I have no plans for any live music links other than my own productions.- So, i hope you're a fan of the Heights or i guess you'll be a little disappointed. I think I'm going to use mostly megaupload and rapidshare at first as those are the share sites that I'm most familiar with.
I will however be commenting on (i hesitate to say review as I'm not a critic and will only comment on projects that move me) current and past HHH album and single releases as well as and more than likely- mostly independent lessor known artists and projects.
I am waiting for the first batch of songs from my brand new up coming album to return from mastering and will be posting a few tracks from that as soon as possible.
Background:
For those of you that have just happened upon this site by chance (and those that didn't but don't know) i thought I'd give a little bit of info about myself. I'm a mc/producer from Springfield Ohio- the home of quite a few celebrities of the 20th century and i guess now the 21st. Most notably in recent years being the Grammy Award winning John Legend as well as one of my best friends Tilo (Methods of Mayhem) both being from the East End of Springfield. I add the last bit there just out of simple pride for my neighborhood. The East End was the last remnant of in my city of a culture of times past that now has begun to slip and fade away; solidly a working class neighborhood that boasted a pretty integrated working and social climate, it seems to have now fallen prey to the chaos that has engulfed the rest of the town and the nation.
I began writing song lyrics at age 11 and have continued every since. My first trip(s) to a professional studio were with Tilo and our close friend and partner Chad Pratt- back in 1991. Since that time i have developed my craft tremendously and actually got a jump on the home recording craze that has become so popular in the last several years- by starting out on a Tascam Porta 2 and Boss 202 and Roland MS-1 in 1994. Acquiring most of this equipment in that same year- it took another year or so to actually learn to utilize it to a maximum capacity. Through Tilo's stint as mc for the MoM project i had an inside line to exactly what the next generation of "do it yourself" gear would be and was able to upgrade to fully digital by 1999, a few years ahead of the average musician (in my region anyway). Through the experience gained over the next few years of recording fully digital demos for myself and close musical friends i acquired a pretty good ear for engineering and mixing. Also around this same time I was able to meet and talk to some of the artists that had heavily influenced my writing and recording styles up till that point. Unfortunately or maybe fortunately- it would not be my time to shine and do to some pretty overwhelming personal issues i "retired" for a few years to get my head together. The next chapter in my life was and is pretty unbelievable to everyone that had known me as a kid, i was to have a series of religious epiphanies that entirely changed not only my outlook but my entire being from the inside out (see the Mars Ill track "When Heaven Scrapes the Pavement" there are a lot of similarities in the song and it would take forever to explain it all). About 2 years after my conversion i felt led to re-acquire some equipment and begin again to record, only this time with renewed purpose and interest. The results from the last two years of work have been very encouraging, i have really tried to take my time with the mixes and have found a professional engineer to master the project- Charlie Devos, who has and is actually i believe planning on continuing to work with HHH super crew Deepspace5 and from everything that I've heard of his work- just happens to be one of the best "board men" I've ever peeped. We will be going out of our way to find publishing for this project, more or less just for distribution whether online or hard copies- the goal isn't money or fame but just to spread the Good Word through the medium of Hip Hop.
I'll add to this if/as I'm struck with details that are important to the testimony.
this is a video that i did the music for as part of a benifit for our local jail ministry
